Dear Sir/Madam:

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department's Standard Specification for HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION, Edition of 2003 requires the use of cast-in-place tactile panels in Wheelchair Ramps. Tactile panels will be pre-approved and listed on a Qualified Products List. We have established a Qualified Products List (QPL 641.02) for this item; the QPL allows the use of the product based solely on product name and manufacturer after the product had been approved for the QPL. The cast-in-place tactile panels shall be composed of a vitrified polymer composite material. The color of the tactile panels shall conform to Federal Color No. 33538, and shall be homogeneous throughout the product. The tactile panels shall be cast into the wet concrete. Surface applied products shall not be allowed. The cast-in-place tactile panels shall meet the size and spacing requirements shown in the plans. Products meeting these requirements may be submitted to the Materials Division for approval.

Armor-Tile Tactile Systems is being considered for inclusion in the QPL. Attached is a product certification, please review the requirements for certification. If there are no questions concerning the certification and you wish to have Armor-Tile Tactile Systems included in the QPL, please sign the certification, maintain a copy for your records, and return the original to the Materials Division. Along with this certification please provide product literature (including recommended installation procedures) and a sample.

After approval for inclusion in the Qualified Products List, samples may be taken at random from shipments for testing. Non-conformance of any material will cause the product to be removed from the Qualified Products List. As the certification explains, changes to the product name, formulation, or design will require the product to be approved again.

If there are questions please contact us at the Materials Division and the above postal
address or call (501) 569-2185, Fax (501) 569-2368.

Sincerely

Jerry R. Westerman

Materials Engineer
