Tactile Warning Curb Ramps

Tactile warning curb ramps have now become a necessity for the community. Most people I come across have no idea what the purpose of tactile warning curb ramps are for. I have heard feedback from the general public and the observations vary from skid resistance for people crossing the street, curb ramp markers for people in wheelchairs to stopping/blocking skateboarders from crossing the street and accessing the curb ramps on their skateboards.

Once I advise people that the purpose for tactile warning curb ramps is for the visually impaired and/or blind community the reaction is usually pleasantly surprised. There are three ways for the visually impaired and/or blind community to detect a vehicular hazard when crossing the street where tactile warning curb ramps are found.
1. Color Contrast
2. Detectable under foot
3. Sound on cane contact.

There are many detectable warning products out there, but its been tried, tested and true that the only one worth considering for long term use, aesthetics and functionality is a vitrified polymer composite tactile detectable warning system made by Armor-Tile.

These little yellow bumps take loads far beyond pedestrian traffic and seems like many of the products out there are consistently failing (cracking, domes shearing, nonadhering, etc.) Armor-Tile has become reputable the old fashioned way, performance.

Now keep in mind there are plenty of copy-cat products out there, one way to assure you are getting true Armor-Tile is to check for their name on the tiles them self. Armor-Tile proudly stamps their name on both their Surface Applied applications for retrofitting as well as their Cast In Place systems for new construction.

Armor-Tile can be found and seen across the Nation as well as in the International market as well.
