Truncated Domes – ADA Compliance, Functionality, Durability and Beauty
Truncated domes are not only a good idea; they are the law. Compliance with the law is quite simple in most cases. Placement of a single, standard size Armor-Tile is often all that it takes to make a curb ramp fully compliant with not only the Federal legislation, but with strict building codes such as those of the State of California.

On occasion, the geometry of a curb ramp or blended transition dictates an installation that is a bit more involved. Such was the case recently, when New Mexico’s ADA Coordinator invited Armor-Tile to demonstrate the installation of our Surface-Applied truncated dome ADA product to retrofit a 12-foot long radius. Armor-Tile easily cut our polymer tiles on-site during the demonstration, to remove a small wedge from each side of ten different tiles. The cuts did not require removal of the factory tapered edge on either of the walking surfaces. The tiles were then simply installed, each adjacent to the other, to form the required radius shape. The demonstration was a complete success; the curb ramp having been brought into truncated dome ADA compliance with minimal effort. The ADA coordinator in attendance witnessed a compliant, fully functional, sound-attenuating product installation. The city officials and contractors saw the simplicity and beauty of this extremely durable Armor-Tile product.
