Concrete Ramps ADA Compliance

When constructing concrete ramps ADA compliance is an issue; a big issue if the project inspector rejects the ramp and the contractor needs to demolish and replace it. It happens occasionally and not just because of slopes and cross slopes. It happens because truncated domes are not compliant with ADA Guidelines.

Many contractors utilize a stamping method to create truncated domes on curb ramps. This process can prove to be very tricky when the purpose is to create domes that are 0.2” high and maintain a specific truncated shape. There is a risk that the domes will not measure as required by Federal requirements and if the inspector rejects the construction, contractor profits can diminish.

Armor-Tile offers a surface applied system that can be applied to existing concrete even when after attempt at stamping domes is rejected. The process is simple. The complete system; tiles, fasteners, adhesive and sealant are supplied by Engineered Plastics Inc. Since the rejected stamped domes consist of weak concrete slurry, they can be ground away in a matter of a few minutes by the use of a cup wheel on a grinder. After the surface is prepared, just remove the concrete of dust, apply Armor-Bond adhesive to the tile, lay the tile down and add fasteners, then apply Armor-Seal perimeter sealant and the domes will be compliant.

Perhaps the Armor-Tile Surface Applied System can be your answer to concrete ramps ADA compliance.
