ARMORTILE SAVED MY BACON

Got myself into a real fix recently, but thanks to Armortile, there is a quick solution.

Last Wednesday seemed to be unfolding pretty much like any other day, with framing going up, flooring going down, and sheetrock going sideways.  Then the bottom fell out.  Just before lunchtime, I got a visit from our Registered Accessibility Specialist.  He’s the site inspector, responsible for compliance with TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation) guidelines.  The bad news from the RAS was that a couple of dozen of our newly poured curb ramps contained grooves which were not spaced properly, and did not meet code.  I was informed that the ramps were “noncompliant”.  I was told that the spacing on the grooves would have to be changed, or that the grooving could be covered by a detectable warning known as “truncated domes”.  Let me tell you, that the thought of demolishing the brand new curb ramps and re-pouring concrete, did not sit well with me.  It would have been a mighty expensive proposition.

Then the RAS mentioned a product called Armortile; so I got on the stick, got on the web, and got on the phone.  The next day, I was walking the jobsite with the Armortile representative for Texas.  The factory rep says that we can easily put down their Surface-Applied truncated dome tiles, right on top of the grooved concrete, and all we need is a 28-day concrete cure first.  We reviewed the procedures for making the ramps compliant, and got down to talking details like color, cost and delivery times.  Armortile offered to assist us at no charge with the installation, because some of our ramps would require making special cuts in the tiles.  We’re going to be putting in the product right away, saving us the time and expense that demolition and re-pouring would have required.  The cost of the tiles includes the color matched fasteners and Urethane-based adhesive, and an 8-square foot tile will only take about 15 minutes to install.  Armortile is going to get me out of this fix, and save me a ton of money and time in the process!
